Withdrawal Management Funds Announced

$84,000 in one time funding to Bluewater Health may be used toward plans for a withdrawal management facility.

The funding comes from an additional $2-million for mental health and addiction services allocated by the province for 2014-2015 to the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network.

Senior Director Ralph Ganter says they've identified the expansion of Sarnia-Lambton's Withdrawal Management Outreach Program as a high priority service.

The province has said the next phase of its strategy includes $138-million over three years.

Bluewater Health has called for expressions of interest and will compile a list of possible sites for the detox centre.

The only identified potential location is the former health unit building on the south side of George St.

It is an 18,000 sq ft option that is part of development plans for the old Sarnia General Hospital.

The hospital wants the treatment centre to be the hub for withdrawal management in Sarnia.
