A sudden decision affecting local veterans has been put on hold by the Minister of Veterans Affairs.
Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley says the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 was told Veterans Affairs Canada is reducing visits to Sarnia to twice a year rather than once a month.
Mayor Bradley says the visits by the federal ministry help veterans with disability applications, benefits and pensions. He fired off a letter to the minister, Erin O'Toole, demanding the cutback be reversed.
Sarnia-Lambton MP Pat Davidson also admitted late Thursday afternoon to being taken off guard by the announcement.
BlackburnNews has received an e-mail from the press secretary for the Minister of Veterans Affairs, Martin Magnan stating the Minister was not made aware of this change and has instructed his department to suspend the decision until a review has been conducted.
Meantime, veterans and their families in Sarnia will continue to receive the services they need, when they need them.
