Lambton County Council was asked Wednesday to publicly denounce the long planned expansion of the Clean Harbors hazardous waste facility near Brigden.
The request was put forward by Jim Stenton on behalf of a group of residents neighbouring the Telfer Rd. site.
St. Clair Township Mayor Steve Arnold says they've done their due diligence with community safety being a top priority.
Director of Environmental Compliance at Clean Harbors Mike Parker says they're waiting for the Environment Ministry's decision on the environmental assessment.
He says their facility is a valuable resource to local industry.

Clean Harbors hopes to begin vertical expansion later this year that will extend the life of the landfill for another 25 years.
An Environment Ministry official may attend county council's meeting in May to discuss the project.
