Firefighting Funding Needed

Warwick Township Mayor Todd Case hopes recent discussions with the Transportation Ministry lead to increased funding for municipal volunteer fire departments.

Case met with Transportation Ministry officials at the Good Roads Conference last week.

He said discussions also included the possibility of funding for equipment and training to replace an eliminated grant with further meetings planned for the future.

Warwick Township volunteer firefighters are responsible for a stretch of the 402 with all 400-series highways falling under provincial jurisdiction.

Case says he also told the Ministry that they must pay for the cost of responding to every call, even if it turns out to be a false alarm, a situation they are not compensated for by the province.
