OFA Lauds Sarnia Biomass Project

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture enthusiastically welcomes the announcement of a major biomass to sugars project in Sarnia.

Bioindustrial Innovation Canada has won funding approval for an initiative at the Western R&D Park that could lead to a full scale commercial plant in southern Ontario by 2018.

Federation Vice-President Don McCabe sees opportunity.

Bioindustrial Innovation Canada Executive Director Dr. Murray McLaughlin says their evaluation and recommendations over the coming months will consider economics, availability and supply of non-food biomass such as corn stover and wheat straw, available conversion technologies and potential markets.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of October 2015.
