Bluewater Health Receives Diabetes Certification

Bluewater Health has received national certification from the Canadian Diabetes Association.

The Diabetes and Clinical Nutrition Program was awarded a five-year certification after completing an in-depth submission that describes in detail the hospital's services, policies, procedures, quality assurance measures and other practices.

Certified diabetes educator Susan Harris says the process is similar to receiving accreditation.

Each year, Bluewater Health provides care and treatment to 1,200 patients living with diabetes.

According to the CDA, an estimated 1-million Canadians live with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes, underlining the importance of raising awareness of its risk factors.

As part of Diabetes Awareness Month, people are encourages to visit the website www.DontBeRisky.ca for more information.
