Flu Shots Encouraged At Bluewater Health

After achieving an 85 per cent compliance rate last year, Bluewater Health is again encouraging health care workers to get the flu shot.

It's part of the organization's protection policy, implemented last year.

Dr. Mark Taylor says those electing to not get the shot must wear a surgical mask in patient care areas at the hospital starting December 1.

He says they've been offering the shot for the past week, and over 40 per cent of workers have already been vaccinated.

Dr. Taylor says proper hand hygiene can prevent up to 50 per cent of flu cases.

He advises residents not to visit someone in the hospital if they have a cold or symptoms including nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
