World U-17 Hockey Challenge Begins (GALLERY)

The puck dropped Sunday afternoon to start the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Sarnia-Lambton.

Team Finland beat rookie Sarnia Sting forward Jordan Kyrou and Canada White 5-1 at the RBC Centre.

The tournament continues through the week with games at the RBC Centre, The Shores Recreation Centre in Lambton Shores and at Sarnia Arena.

Three Canadian teams, White, Black and Red, are competing against the world's best in the under-17 age group.

Other countries taking part are the U-S, Russia, Sweden and Slovakia.

It's estimated the event will inject over $3-million into the local economy.

In other action Sunday afternoon the U-S beat Sweden 6-3 in Forest.

The evening games saw Russia beat Canada Black at the RBC Centre 5-1.

The only Canadian squad to open with a win was Canada Red in Forest, 6-0 over Slovakia.

The medal games are next Saturday November 8.
