The Sarnia Sting led by three goals at one point but couldn't hold on, losing 8-5 to the Battalion Sunday afternoon in a high scoring affair in North Bay.
On the strength of four goals in the second period, the Sting erased a 2-1 first period deficit and led 5-4 after 40 minutes.
Sarnia had opened up a 5-2 lead with less than seven minutes to go in the second, but the Battalion scored two before the end of the period and another four unanswered in the third for the win.
Two of North Bay’s goals in the third were into an empty net after Taylor Dupuis had taken over in goal in relief of Justin Fazio with the game tied 5-5.
The Battalion would get the game winner on the power play from Zach Bratina with less than five minutes to go. The North Bay attack was led by Nick Paul with three goals.
Troy Lajuenesse from nearby Dokis First Nations opened the scoring for the Sting with the other goals going to Nikita Korostelev (9), Daniel Nikandrov (3), Pavel Zacha (7) and Hayden Hodgson (7).
Anthony DeAngelo and Davis Brown both had two assists.
North Bay outshot the Sting 33-24.
Sarnia completed its northern road swing with four out of a possible six points.
The Sting (6-7-1-1) completes a stretch of five straight on the road with two more away games this week, at Erie Friday and in Niagara Saturday.

Hockey Canada announced Sunday that Sting defenceman Jakob Chychrun will miss the tournament due to injury. Rookie forward Jordan Kyrou of the Sting is playing for Canada White.
