Woman arrested after ditching GPS monitoring device

A 55-year-old Shrewsbury woman who already has a history of getting on the wrong side of the law is in more trouble after she allegedly removed a GPS monitoring device.

CK police said the woman had been ordered to wear the device as part of a conditional sentence order that she received on July 11, 2022.

Some of the other conditions of her sentence required her to stay in her residence at all times, to not purchase any alcohol, and to not possess any alcohol or other intoxicating substances.

Officers showed up at her home after they got an alert from the GPS monitoring company shortly before 5 p.m. Monday saying that the device she was supposed to be wearing had been tampered with.

When police found the woman, she was at her residence in Shrewsbury, but she was intoxicated and was no longer wearing the device.

She was arrested and taken to police headquarters where she was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Officers said they showed up there shortly after 9 p.m. and were told that a man and a woman had been canvassing the area for concrete work opportunities.

Police were able to track them both down and learned that they were both wanted on outstanding warrants.

The 31-year-old Chatham woman was wanted for failing to attend court in connection with an assault investigation from September 2023 while the 51-year-old man was wanted by CK police, Owen Sound police, and Saugeen Shores police.

Both of the accused were later released with conditions and a future court date.

The man is charged with fraud while the woman is charged with assault with a weapon.
