Man arrested for assaulting woman during argument

A 41-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a pair of assault charges after he was allegedly seen assaulting a woman twice in public.

CK police said they were called to the scene on King Street on Sunday, adding that bystanders witnessed both of the assaults, which took place during an argument.

Officers said the man took off before police arrived, so they obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Police caught up with him on Wellington Street in Chatham at around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.


Man accused of cashing stolen cheques

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man who had been wanted since August of last year for allegedly cashing some stolen cheques.

Police said they found him in a parking lot on Richmond Street in Chatham just after 7:30 p.m. Monday while they were following up on a report of some suspicious activity.

Officers said the man was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, uttering forged documents, identity fraud, and fraud under $5,000.

He was later released with a future court date.


Traffic stop nets wanted man

A traffic stop in Wallaceburg led CK police to a 45-year-old Walpole Island man who had been wanted in connection with a theft investigation.

Police said the investigation started in February and that there was a warrant for the man's arrest.

He was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and was later released with a future court date.


Man wanted by Lambton OPP turns up in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent police managed to pull a favour for their provincial counterparts in Lambton County early Tuesday morning.

CK police said while they were responding to a disturbance call on Oak Street in Wallaceburg at around 1:30 a.m., they found a man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant held by the Lambton County OPP.

The 28-year-old Ontario man was arrested and turned over to OPP for court purposes.


Three alleged court-skippers arrested

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with three more people who were all wanted for skipping court locally.

A 51-year-old Wheatley man who was wanted for failing to attend court in relation to an assault investigation that goes back to September of last year was arrested when police found him on Erie Street North in Wheatley shortly after 10:15 a.m. Monday.

He was later released with a future court date.

A 26-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for skipping court at the end of September last year was also arrested on Monday.

Police said he turned himself in at CK police headquarters shortly after 7:15 p.m. Monday.

He is currently charged with two counts of uttering threats and two counts of failing to attend court and was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A third person, a 33-year-old Chatham-Kent woman, was also arrested on Monday for failing to attend court.

Police said she was arrested on Wellington Street in Chatham shortly after 2 p.m. Monday.

The woman is currently facing two counts of theft and two counts of possession of stolen property in connection with two separate theft investigations.

She was later released with a new court date.
