SheLeads event aims to empower, educate women in Chatham-Kent

A group of women in Chatham-Kent are raising the bar and inviting others to join them as they build new bridges and take on leadership roles in the current economy.

SheLeads is a full-day event designed to Inspire, Empower and Educate attendees through keynote speakers, panels and workshops, all facilitated by women in Chatham-Kent.

The volunteer-driven full-day event for "all women-identifying folks" on July 8 is aimed at helping people in the community learn about women's history, celebrate achievements, discuss current issues related to women's rights and gender equality, hear from experts and thought leaders, participate in discussions and workshops and connect with like-minded individuals.

It is being held at the Capitol Theatre and is co-founded by Dr. Erin TeWinkel, ND and Randi Bokor Caron.

Bokor Caron and Dr. TeWinkel were motivated to make a difference in their hometown Chatham-Kent and decided to move back to CK from Toronto. Both founders said they want to be motivators for change and created SheLeads after many conversations with empowered women throughout the community.

The admission price is open to whatever the attendees want to contribute.

"It is a pay-what-you-can event, and our goal is accessibility," Dr. Erin TeWinkel said. "We want no barriers for you to come and enjoy all the content that is going to be there".

There will be 19 workshops throughout the day, which will fill up on a first-come-first served basis -- attendees can participate in three of them.

There will also be a fashion show towards the end of the event where local female leaders and entrepreneurs around the community can showcase their businesses and accomplishments.
