Man wanted for assault arrested in Chatham

The long arm of the law has caught up with a 27-year-old Chatham-Kent man who was wanted in connection with an assault and a pair of thefts.

Chatham-Kent police said an officer on general patrol found the man on Grand Avenue West in Chatham on Monday.

Officers said they were familiar with the man from previous incidents and confirmed he was wanted in connection with an assault investigation reported on March 7 and two theft investigations reported on January 24 and 28.

The accused was charged with two counts each of theft, possession of stolen property, and assault causing bodily harm. He was also charged with one count each of failing to comply with an undertaking, uttering threats, and assault with a weapon.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Wanted man turns himself in

A 28-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for failing to answer the door when police came to check on him is back behind bars.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was released from custody in the middle of December last year with a conditional sentence that required him to answer the door at the request of a peace officer.

Despite that order, police said when they went to his home on March 22 as part of an investigation, he "failed to present himself when requested."

Police issued a warrant for his arrest and he turned himself in for that on Monday.

The man was arrested and was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Chatham woman arrested for failing to attend court

A 40-year-old Chatham woman is in more trouble with the law after she allegedly skipped out on a court date.

Police said the woman was supposed to show up for court after she was arrested -- and later released -- because she allegedly failed to pay restitution to an individual regarding a peace bond.

Officers said they found her on Wellington Street East at around 7:15 p.m. Monday in Chatham and arrested her.

She was charged with failing to attend court and was later released with a new court date.
