Attempted vehicle thefts interrupted in Thamesville

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips after some homeowners in Thamesville interrupted what appears to have been a pair of attempted vehicle thefts.

Police said officers were called to Sherman Street in Thamesville at around 5 a.m. Sunday and learned that two men wearing camo or patterned jackets took off after they were confronted by homeowners there.

Officers said in both incidents, a window and the ignition of the vehicles were damaged.

Man arrested in domestic violence case

A 38-year-old Dresden man is charged with assault after he allegedly hit a woman in the face during an argument in Wallaceburg Sunday afternoon.

Police said they made the arrest after answering a call to Westcourt Boulevard at around 1 p.m. Sunday for a disturbance.

The accused was arrested, charged with assault, and taken back to police headquarters. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.


Unwanted woman ends up being wanted by police

Chatham-Kent police arrested a 28-year-old Chatham woman after they received a call about an unwanted person at a home on Stanley Avenue in Chatham Sunday night.

And it turned out, she was wanted after all.

Officers said while the woman was not welcome at the home, she was wanted by the local police service on an outstanding DNA warrant.

Police were able to find the woman near the home when they responded to the call shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday and arrested her.

Officers said the woman was taken back to police headquarters and later released without conditions once the warrant was satisfied.
