Police allegedly find drugs while searching spitter

A Wallaceburg woman is facing a pair of charges after she allegedly spat on someone and was found carrying around some methamphetamine.

Chatham-Kent police said their investigation started just after 7 a.m. on Sunday when they were called to a disturbance on Terry Street in Wallaceburg.

Officers said they learned that two women had gotten into an "altercation" during which, one of the women spat on the other.

Police caught up with the suspect a short time later and arrested her.

When officers were searching the woman, they also allegedly found some suspected methamphetamine in her possession.

A 52-year-old Wallaceburg woman was charged with assault and drug possession and was taken back to police headquarters, then later released with conditions and a future court date.


Crash leads to impaired driving charge

A 37-year-old Chatham woman is facing an impaired driving charge after police were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning.

Police said they were called to Merritt Avenue in Chatham just after 4 a.m. Monday after a vehicle that was heading east on Riverview Drive jumped the curb and hit a tree on Merritt Avenue.

Officers said they believed the woman behind the wheel of the vehicle was driving under the influence of alcohol, so she was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for further testing.

A 37-year-old Chatham woman was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and released with conditions and a future court date.


Man arrested for public intoxication

A 22-year-old Chatham man who was found in a parking lot, unable to care for himself, spent some time sobering up in Chatham-Kent police custody.

Police said they found the man after getting a call about a disturbance on Sheldon Avenue in Chatham just before 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

The man was arrested and taken back to police headquarters and issued a provincial offence notice.
