A crash between a cement truck and an SUV that closed down a section of Queen's Line near Tilbury for several hours on Tuesday has taken a tragic turn.
Chatham-Kent police said the 55-year-old woman who was driving the SUV was airlifted to the hospital after the collision, but died from her injuries.
The 31-year-old man driving the truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police said their initial investigation shows that the cement truck was heading west just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, approaching the 401 access ramp on Queen's Line, when it veered into the eastbound traffic lane and hit an SUV that was heading east.
The cement truck ended up going through a ditch and stopped in a cornfield while the SUV spun into the ditch.
Police said there were no passengers in either vehicle and that the names of those involved will not be released at this time.
