A new COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA).
This outbreak is on the Complex Continuing Care (CCC) Unit in Chatham and has six cases, according to hospital officials.
CKHA said the public health unit will work closely with the hospital to manage the outbreak within the 4th Floor unit and will continue to work in consultation until the outbreak is declared over.
"As part of CKHA’s pandemic response action plan and in alignment with the hospital’s infection prevention and control guidelines, a number of additional initiatives have been implemented in response to the outbreak on the CCC Unit (4th Floor). CKHA will continue following these measures until CK Public Health rescinds the outbreak order," wrote CKHA in a news release issued on Wednesday afternoon. "Since the onset of this pandemic, CKHA has taken decisive and immediate action with the ever-evolving dynamics of COVID-19. The safety of staff, physicians, patients, care partners, visitors and the community at large, has and will remain the top priority."
CKHA reminds the community that the hospital remains a safe place to receive care. Hospital officials urge the public to call 911 or visit their nearest Emergency Department if they are experiencing an emergency.
There are a total of two COVID-19 outbreaks currently in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. The other outbreak is at Copper Terrace Long Term Care Facility in Chatham and it has a total of seven cases. That outbreak was declared on July 13, 2022.
The last COVID-19 outbreak at CKHA was May 20, 2022.
Chatham-Kent Public Health reported 43 new cases of COVID-19 this past week.
