Enbridge Gas is increasing its natural gas rates this month.
Enbridge recently announced that it has received approval from the Ontario Energy Board to hike customer prices for natural gas. A typical residential customer will see an average bill jump by about $7 to $44 a year depending on where they live, starting October 1, 2020.
The company said natural gas rates are adjusted each quarter to keep up with forecasted market changes in the price of natural gas supplies.
Enbridge added gas prices remain lower today than they were three years ago but as the economy recovers and demand for natural gas increases heading into the winter, market prices are rising. The gas giant said natural gas prices have been historically low since they were last adjusted in April because of the economic slowdown from COVID-19 and an unusually warm winter.
Enbridge Gas added that it did not implement the scheduled July rate change and held customer rates flat because of the economic challenges many families and businesses faced as a result of the pandemic.
Enbridge also said there are supports available for customers who can't make timely bill payments during these challenging times. For example, customers can arrange to make installment payments against a balance and avoid late payment fees if more time is needed to pay a balance.
