The Parry Bridge on Keil Dr. in Chatham is closed for the summer.
Director of Engineering Adam Sullo says the main detour will be to the Lacroix St. bridge in Chatham, but that's not the only way to get across the river.
"We have 16 lighted message boards spread around Chatham," says Sullo. "We'll have one on Hwy. 2 and Merlin Rd. so we can try to divert traffic there prior to coming into Chatham if they can to use the Prairie Siding Bridge if that's an option."
This should be the last time the Keil Dr. bridge is shut down for a while, though.
"We do expect at one point in its life we will have to replace the concrete deck, which is basically the driving surface between the steel and the asphalt that the people drive on," says Sullo adding that could be somewhere in the next ten to 15 years.
The bridge should be open to pedestrian traffic all summer unless a safety concern arises.
Sullo says the work remains on schedule, which means the bridge should re-open September 1 with the work being completed by the end of October.
