OHA names Kitchener forward Kawalec Junior B Player of the Year

The Ontario Hockey Association has named Kitchener Dutchmen forward Sean Kawalec as the 2019-20 Junior B Player of the Year.

The captain of the Dutchmen in what was their final season in Kitchener as the team was bought by an ownership group from Ayr, and will become the Jr. B Ayr Centennials next season.

Kawalec put up a career high in goals (47) and points (97) which led all Dutchmen players, the second straight year he's done so. He also had 16 points in just 6 playoff games before COVID-19 cancelled the remainder of the playoffs.

Kawalec has spent 4 years in the GOJHL, all with the Dutchmen, amassing an incredible 213 points in just 147 games. The Kitchener native was also named the Midwestern Conference MVP, was the conference top scorer, was named a first-team all-star, and earned Offensive Player of the Month honours 4 times this year.

This marks the 4th straight year a Midwestern Conference player has been named Junior B Player of the year, as Kawalec follows Listowel's Holdyn Lansink, Stratford's Jack Scanlan and Elmira's Jonathan Reinhart.
