Some local softball players helped Canada win its first game at the U17 Pan American Softball Championship in Guatemala.

Canada beat the host team 3-1 to even its record at 1-1.

Durham's Owen Rahn scored the opening run of the game in the third inning when he got on with a fielder's choice then scampered around the bases on a couple of wild pitches and a passed ball.

Later in the sixth inning with the game tied at one, Tavistock's Mason McKay drove in a run with a double then in the seventh, Cargill's Jackson Pegelo punched an RBI single to drive in the insurance run.

Pitchers were Andrew Van Boekel of Bright and Shakespeare's Reese Yantzi combined for the win.
