Local athlete ready for the big stage at WBSC World Softball Championship

A local Mitchell athlete is ready for the competition at the WBSC Men's Softball World Championship.

Tyler Pauli is representing Team Canada in the Czech Republic, and got to carry in the flag for Canada at the opening ceremonies yesterday.

"It was unbelievable, and I think they gave me the flag because I'm the young guy, I'm the rookie. But it was a true honour in my eyes."

Canada will begin tournament play today at 7:30 a.m. against Denmark, as Canada tries to win gold for the first time since 2015 when they won on home soil in Saskatchewan. The tournament opened yesterday with the host Czech Republic playing reigning champs New Zealand. Pauli says he and the team are ready for game 1.

"We're very confident heading into these next couple of weeks. We've got practice every morning, and a lot of team meetings to get ready for the games, and we're ready to go and we're excited."
