Wiarton And Port Elgin Natives Team Up For Solid Beach Volleyball Nationals Finish

Two Midwestern Ontario volleyball players had a great showing at the recent Beach Volleyball Nationals in Toronto.

Luc Nusselder of Port Elgin and team mate Johnny Picket of Wiarton placed 4th in the National Championship, after just 2 seasons playing together. Luc says that he and Johnny were excited to play so well, and put in a lot of extra work this year.

"We practiced very regularly, maybe three of four times a week here in Port Elgin. So, we worked really hard, we did a lot of gym workouts as well, so we were basically training every day all summer long."

The two boys will now shift their focus toward their high school indoor teams, and next summer they'll compete again on the sand before looking to join a university team after they graduate. Nusselder says that he and Johnny, on top of training all summer, even got to watch some of the pros this summer in Europe while preparing for the event.

"We went to Holland this summer to watch the European Championships for beach volleyball. Even while we were there, we were still training, because we had our sights set on nationals and doing really well there."
