Lacrosse Season Ends For Local Players In NLL Final

Lion's Head native Rob Hellyer led the way with two goals and four assists but the Toronto Rock fell 11-10 to Edmonton in Game 2 of the National Lacrosse League Final. Edmonton walks away with the Champions Cup after taking the first two games in the best-of-3.

Wiarton resident Colin Doyle added four points of his own and Elora's Kasey Beirnes has two assists. Defenseman and Arthur native Rob Marshall did not find the scoresheet.

The game was back and forth with both teams trading one goal leads in the second half. After Hellyer  scored shorthanded early in the fourth quarter to put the Rock ahead Edmonton answered by scoring on the powerplay to tie, then shorthanded to pull ahead.

Toronto evened the score once again but Edmonton put away the eventual game winner with just a minute to play in the fourth.

Hellyer ends his season second in the league in playoff scoring with 23 points after scoring 90 points in just 14 regular season games. Doyle had 12 points in the playoffs after missing all but one season game due to injury. Beirnes had a career year in his 11th NLL season, totaling 60 points in 18 games. Marshall played in every game this season and managed 4 points.
