Yurkiw Turns Down Spot on Canadian Alpine Ski Team

Owen Sound's Larisa Yurkiw is turning down a spot on the Canadian Alpine Ski Team.Yurkiw has been supporting her own career through charitable donations and corporate sponsorships for over two years. In a blog post last night, Yurkiw announced the offer to join the national team and then explained why she was turning it down.

She explains that "Team Larisa was founded in response to the lack of Women's Speed team in 2013/14."  She says in her post "I've landed myself in the exact environment I feel is best for me." And goes on to say "I simply can't walk away from this opportunity for Team Larisa to live on."

Yurkiw competed at the Sochi Olympics in 2014 and also made her first World Cup podium appearance at the beginning of this year.

Yurkiw says she is ecstatic to see the Canadian Alpine Ski Team introduce a speed coach for women's alpine skiing.
