Exeter Shut Out By Essex

The Exeter Hawks open their first ever Schmalz Cup playoff game with a 3-0 loss to the Essex 73's

Essex was able to keep the Hawks deadly power-play at bay, killing off all 10 of Exeter's power-plays.

It took only 53 seconds for the 73's to find the score-sheet, adding one more in the first period and another in the second.

Exeter struggled to get much going offensively, registering only 11 shots in the contest. Surprisingly, both teams combined for just one shot in the third period.

Hawks goalie James Morreau made 29 saves in the loss.

Game 2 is Friday night in Exeter at 8 p.m.
