A Hanover police officer was left with minor injuries after a car collided with a police cruiser.
Shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on 4th Avenue near 9th Street in the Town of Hanover.
The driver allegedly sped off as the officer approached the vehicle. The officer deployed a spike belt, which punctured the tires.
The driver then reportedly ran a stop sign before colliding head-on with another responding police cruiser on 10th Street.
Both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage.
The driver and passenger allegedly fled the scene on foot after driving several more blocks on 10th Street.
Hanover police reportedly chased the suspects on foot. Officers arrested the driver, a 28-year-old man from Haldimand. The passenger, a 23-year-old woman from Cambridge, was arrested roughly 30 minutes later.
The officer involved in the crash was taken to Hanover and District Hospital and was later released. Both suspects were not injured.
Investigators report that the two suspects were on bail with conditions prohibiting them from contacting one another.
Police found open liquor inside the vehicle and suspect that the driver was impaired by alcohol and drugs.
The man faces several charges, including impaired driving, dangerous operation, flight from police, failure to remain, breach of an undertaking, having open liquor in a vehicle, and two counts of driving under a suspension.
The woman was charged with breach of an undertaking.
