Owen Sound hosts local authors' book fair

Book lovers across Grey and Bruce counties have a big reason to drop by the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library this weekend.

The third annual Local Author Book Fair returns on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24, bringing together over 30 regional writers for the area's largest literary gathering of the year. The free, family-friendly event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. both days across all levels of the library. Visitors can chat with creators, explore a wide range of genres, and pick up signed copies directly from local talent.

To add to the fun, attendees can play Library Plinko or Book Fair Bingo for prizes, flash any library card for a chance at a book bundle, or buy a local title to enter a draw to win back the purchase price. The event builds on a long tradition of celebrating hometown storytelling.

Grey and Bruce Counties have been inspiring writers for generations. Back in May of 2006, former Chief Librarian Andrew Armitage wrote about the many local writers whose books are coming off the press at an ever-accelerating rate.

"They are novelists, poets, travel writers, authors of young adult and children's books, cookbook writers, contributors to magazines, compilers of local lore, makers of memoirs and guidebooks, essayists, railways buffs, and historians. All of them have one thing in common - they are your neighbours,” said Armitage.

With more than 600 items currently featured in its dedicated regional collection, the library continues to serve as a hub for local stories and talent. Anyone interested in learning more can visit the library website at osngupl.ca or reach out directly to library staff.
