Goderich Municipal Childcare Centre reports 171 entries on waiting list

Demand for childcare remains significant in Goderich, with the town's municipal childcare centre reporting 171 entries on its waiting list.

The figure was included in the centre's September report, presented to Goderich council during its October 19 meeting.

The report also indicates that 52 children left the centre to begin school this fall, prompting adjustments to classroom configurations to accommodate changing enrolment needs.

Particular attention is being given to toddler care as staff work to manage available spaces.

The municipality notes that the 171 waiting-list entries include families seeking childcare in future years, meaning not everyone on the list requires an immediate placement.

On its official website, the town directs parents to register through the OneHSN-Huron system and confirms, "No fees for waitlist registration or updates."

The childcare centre provides programs for infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children.

Meanwhile, renovations to the centre's kitchen are scheduled to begin next week, with temporary kitchen operations arranged at the Salvation Army Suncoast Citadel during construction.
