The 25th annual CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon has raised $501,039 after its seven hour broadcast.
All the money raised is being funneled into local health care projects for hospitals, including Chelsey, Mount Forest, Palmerston, Wingham, Walkerton, Listowel, Clinton, Hanover, and Seaforth.
Before the event, each foundation chose improvements that the donations would be put towards. Some of the additions include Zoll Defibrillators, BiPAP Ventilators, Laboratory Infrastructure, Emergency Room Upgrades, and a Medical Vacuum Pump.
"Government funding does not cover the cost of capital equipment in hospitals, these projects truly rely on gifts made from within the community," said a statement from The Mount Forest Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation.
The fundraiser first began in 2002 and has raised more than $16 million for local healthcare. It is considered one of the major annual fundraising campaigns for many participating hospitals.
The event took place on Saturday, airing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on AM920. It included patient stories and information on each foundation's fundraising goals.
Fundraising efforts will continue until the end of October. More information can be found on the radiothon's webpage.
