Teens across Grey and Bruce Counties have a full lineup of activities to look forward to at local libraries this fall, ranging from weekly drop-in sessions to a region-wide creative showcase.
Starting October 1 and running through December, the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library will host a series of free fall programs designed specifically for students in grades 7 through 12. Youth Services will offer light snacks and a comfortable environment with no registration required.
Midweek study sessions kick off on Wednesday, October 7, running from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Wednesday. The Teen Study Group offers a welcoming, quiet space to get work done, study solo, or collaborate with peers.
On alternating Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m., teens can participate in two distinct "Unplug and Unwind" streams. Board game sessions begin October 1, featuring classic titles like Scrabble and Catan along with new games to discover. On the opposing Thursdays starting October 8, hands-on crafting sessions will feature creative projects including pumpkin and dried flower centrepieces, neurographic art, and needle felting.
Beyond weekly drop-ins, young writers and artists across the region are invited to take part in the 2026 Write @ Your Library creative writing contest. Open to all students in grades 7 to 12 living in Grey and Bruce Counties, the contest accepts poetry, short story, and anthology cover design submissions. Winning entries will earn cash prizes up to $100 and publication in the Write for 2026 anthology.
The contest is coordinated by the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library in partnership with the Blue Mountains, Bruce County, Grey Highlands, Hanover, Meaford, Southgate, and West Grey public libraries. Guidelines and submission details are available at local participating branches or online at the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library website.
