A firefighter with Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services placed second overall at the FireFit World Championship.
Joe Forbes completed the championship course in Fredericton, New Brunswick on September 13 with a time of 1:11.48, earning the silver medal.
"Achieving a podium finish at the World Championship is an incredible accomplishment. Joe's commitment, discipline and determination are evident in everything he does," said Owen Sound Fire Chief Phil Eagleson. "We are extremely proud of his success and the hard work he has dedicated to the sport and the positive impact that continues to have within our fire department.”
Forbes is a nine year veteran of the Owen Sound Fire Department and has been an active competitor in FireFit events throughout his career.
Known as the "toughest two minutes in sports," the FireFit Championships see firefighters in full gear go head-to-head completing essential firefighting tasks. The events are physically demanding and test strength, endurance, speed, and skill.
Grey-Bruce is scheduled to host the FireFit World Championship in 2028.
