HPHA staff to receive specialized training for Walton TransCan Races

Doctors and nurses with the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) will be taking part is specialized trauma training in preparation for the upcoming Walton TransCan Races.

A media release from HPHA on Friday shares that medical staff from the alliance will be participating in "realistic mock trauma scenarios" to prepare for the Walton TransCan Races taking place August 11-15.

The training will include instruction on how to safely remove specialized motocross protective equipment, as well as training on managing common traumatic injuries associated with the sport of motocross.

That includes orthopedic injuries and pneumothorax, which occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall, requiring chest tube insertion.

The training takes place Monday, August 10 at 8 a.m. at Seaforth Community Hospital.
