A school bus driver is facing stunt driving charges after reportedly driving 100 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 kilometre per hour zone while children were on board.
Dufferin OPP officers were conducting traffic enforcement when they allegedly saw the bus travelling at a high rate of speed in the area of County Road 17 and Prince of Wales Road northeast of Shelburne around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
"Officers initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the driver regarding the excessive speed, particularly given that children were on board the bus at the time of the offence," police said.
A 56-year-old woman from Beeton is charged with speeding more than 50 kilometres over the posted limit, stunt driving, and failing to surrender her licence.
Police said they found the incident especially concerning because the intersection where the bus was stopped was the site of a fatal two-vehicle crash five weeks ago.
"Incidents such as this highlight the importance of safe and responsible driving, especially when transporting children," police said.
Dufferin OPP has vowed to continue its proactive enforcement throughout the county.
