Bruce County will receive $2 million over four years to support assessment work for the expansion of Bruce Power.
On May 21, the upper-tier municipality and the nuclear energy producer entered into a Capacity Funding Agreement, which the parties say will support regional infrastructure planning and community readiness assessments for the proposed Bruce C project.
The Agreement follows the province's announcement that it will help fund pre-development activities to progress Canada’s first large-scale nuclear build in 30 years.
"The opportunity and responsibility that comes with the scale of the proposed Bruce C project requires partnership and support," said Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau. "Ontario’s recent commitment to advancing reliable, affordable energy production along with Bruce Power’s support will ensure we’re meeting the needs of our residents. We have a lot of critical work to do."
Bruce County will be assessing the anticipated capital and service impacts to areas such as transportation, housing, land use planning, and social infrastructure.
Last week, Bruce Power announced its funding agreement with the Municipality of Kincardine for $2.2 million over four year. Saugeen Shores will officially announce its $2 million funding agreement at Monday's council meeting.
