A new four month fundraiser aims to help Ontario's eight freshwater turtle species.
The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) is running the Adopt a Turtle fundraiser to help thos at risk turtle species. It promotes donations to the Support the Turtles Protection Program to enhance wetland habitat for turtles.
The campaign launched in May and continues until Thursday, September 3, 2026, which is the day of the annual hatchling release event at Morrison Dam Conservation Area east of Exeter.
According to the ABCA, there are three tiers of recognition for fundraising campaign supporters. $20 donors will be known as a Hatchling Hero, $50 will fall in the Adopt a Turtle tier, and those who donate $250 or more will be known as Conservation Insiders.
Donors at the upper levels will receive recognition including a turtle-related gift package and a monthly email update following the progress of the turtle hatchlings, and more.
