Huron Perth Catholic District School Board celebrates Autism Awareness Month

The Huron Perth Catholic District School Board (HPCDSB) recently celebrated Autism Awareness Month in April with students and staff.

A statement from the school board shared that the board felt it was important to make "meaningful progress in fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments for all students."

One main focus for this school year has been a focus on neurodiversity education. According to the HPCDSB, over 50 training sessions have been given this year, with sessions happening in classrooms so students learn how to better understand and support their peers.

According to HPCDSB staff, these sessions were about "empowering students to become leaders and allies while strengthening peer relationships and fostering a strong sense of belonging across school communities."

"The growth we’ve seen this year reflects a shared commitment to inclusion across our schools," said Jessica Langan, Learning Coordinator of Special Education. "When students understand and support one another, we create environments of true belonging where everyone can thrive."
