Mount Forest Community Centre to remain closed until further notice

An update has been given on the currently closed Mount Forest Community Centre.

The Township of Wellington North says the building at 320 King Street East will remain closed until further notice following an inspection by the Township’s Building and Fire Departments.

Following the building inspection, there remains concern regarding the deterioration of the building itself, with many code compliance matters identified. These code issues require that the issues either be fixed or that the facility remain closed until the issues can be fixed.

Wellington North staff note that the Mount Forest Community Centre is over 50 years old and was past its useful life expectancy when it initially closed in 2008. Following that closure, the facility was leased to a community group that assumed responsibility for ongoing maintenance.

A statement from the township added that "the Township is committed to completing a thorough review and will bring forward a comprehensive report to Council on the future of the facility later in 2026."
