SIU invokes mandate after Grey Bruce police dog injures person

The province's police oversight agency has invoked its mandate after a person was bitten by a dog during an arrest in Northern Bruce Peninsula Tuesday.

The Special Investigations Unit was called in after members of the Grey Bruce OPP executed a warrant at an address on Spry Shore Road around 1 p.m.

According to police, during the arrest, the individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being gripped by a police service dog. They were taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The person was taken into custody, but OPP say details of the charges won't be shared as the matter is being investigated.

Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529
