Driver charged after road closure sign destroyed

A Brockton senior faces a careless driving charge after allegedly destroying a road closure sign in a crash late last month.

The sign had been placed on Bruce Road 3 outside Walkerton the morning of March 28 as emergency crews responded to a fatal two-vehicle collision. That afternoon, South Bruce OPP were advised that a vehicle had collided with the sign, destroying it. The vehicle reportedly was heavily damaged in the crash.

On Thursday, police announced that a 74-year-old person from the Municipality of Brockton is charged with one count of careless driving.

Police used the incident to remind drivers that traffic safety is everyone's responsibility.

"Pay attention and drive to the conditions of the roadways," police said.
