Listowel school wins award for anti-racism video

St. Mary’s Catholic School in Listowel has won an award from a London-based multicultural neighbourhood resource centre for an anti-racism video.

The school's Grade 7/8 students were honoured with the Steve Mavers Award at the annual LUSO Community Anti-Racism Video Awards.

The award celebrates the legacy of Mavers, former Curator of Education at Museum London, and is presented to schools that go above and beyond in their commitment to inclusivity, community building, and lifelong learning.

According to a media release from the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board, the class, under the guidance of Ms. Denstedt, produced a moving video centred on the theme 'The Human Cost of Racism.'

"As school community leaders, you demonstrate every day that you have the agency to shape the present and influence the future," said Principal Paula Valcke in a release.

The board says St. Michael Catholic SS and St. Joseph’s Catholic Schools in Stratford also submitted impact videos endorsing this year’s theme. The videos will all be shared on the board's social media.
