Police reminding people to "Lock It or Lose It" after vehicle thefts in Southgate

Two people have been arrested after numerous items were stolen from unlocked vehicles in the Township of Southgate, prompting police to remind everyone to "Lock It or Lose It."

At 2 a.m. on Wednesday, the Grey Bruce OPP responded to Victoria Street East in Dundalk after getting calls regarding two people actively stealing from unlocked vehicles.

Officers arrived and arrested two people without incident. An 18-year-old and 20-year-old, both Dundalk residents, have been charged with trespassing at night, possession of break-in instruments, mischief, and possession of property obtained by crime.

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on June 25.

This incident has led police to remind everyone that you should always lock your vehicles, and to not keep anything of high value in your vehicle unattended.

Grey Bruce OPP are asking residents in the area to review any home or dash‑camera video footage from the overnight hours and to check their vehicles to determine whether they may have been victims of theft.
