Grand reopening held for Listowel's Fisher Family Primary Care Centre

The Fisher Family Primary Care Centre held a grand reopening Wednesday night in Listowel.

The Listowel Wingham and Area Family Health Team calls the building home, and after completing a recent $10 million, 10,000 square foot addition, Executive Director Robin Spence Haffner says they're excited to have a state-of-the-art primary care centre in the area, and it will be a beacon of healthcare for many years to come.

"This will just enhance our ability as the town grows to keep providing that level of care with the ultimate goal of having every resident being attached to a primary care provider, so it's a really exciting time," Spence Haffner shared proudly.

Spence Haffner says now the goal will be continuing to enhance recruitment efforts, and the Listowel Wingham and Area Family Health Team will soon be submitting for funding to access money being made available by the provincial government to help with further recruitment of healthcare professionals.

The new addition to the Fisher Family Primary Care Centre features 12 exam rooms, 6 meeting rooms, a new administrative office and new welcome area.

Spence Haffner says the fact that $4 million of the project cost was raised locally is an amazing achievement and shows how deeply residents care about quality healthcare.

"From the hospital to primary care, it's just astounding, it's so generous, and people are just so community minded and they invest in each other, and their health in the community, which is just amazing," she added.

As recruitment efforts continue, Spence Haffner points out that having this state-of-the-art facility will be critical in recruiting more healthcare professionals to come and work and live in the area.

"When a doctor or a nurse practitioner, or another healthcare provider sees the level of commitment and investment and priority that a community places on healthcare, they feel valued," she said.
