An OPP officer suffered minor injuries after being struck by a car during a traffic stop.
According to Grey Bruce OPP, on the evening of November 5, an officer was conducting a traffic stop along Highway 26, near Algonquin Drive in Meaford.
As the officer dealt with the pulled over driver, another vehicle hit the officer, striking him with the passenger side mirror.
The vehicle continued down the road and failed to stop. Police later located the vehicle and identified the driver.
As a result, a 70-year-old driver from Hamilton has been charged with fail to report accident, fail to remain at the scene, careless driving and fail to slow down and proceed with caution for emergency vehicle.
The OPP urges all drivers to respect Ontario's Move Over Law. When approaching an emergency vehicle stopped with its lights flashing, motorists must slow down and, if safe, move into another lane. This law is designed to protect police, paramedics, tow truck operators, and other roadside workers.
