Man charged with property crimes in several counties

A 22-year-old West Perth man is facing multiple charges following a string of property crimes in Perth, Huron, Wellington and Oxford Counties; the City of Stratford and Waterloo Region.

According to police, throughout the month of September, OPP and Stratford Police Service investigated several property crimes.

On Tuesday, members of the Perth County OPP along with the Community Street Crime Unit, located a stolen vehicle, in the town of Listowel.

According to police, the driver attempted to flee on foot before they were taken into custody without incident.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, police charged the man with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, two counts of theft over $5,000, operation while prohibited and failure to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held in custody before a court appearance in Stratford on Wednesday. Additionally, Stratford Police Service has charged the accused with multiple offences in relation to incidents that occurred in their jurisdiction.

"This is another example of the excellent work from our Community Street Crimes Unit and Perth County Detachment members to ensure the suspect was arrested safely," said Perth County OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Tyler Stewart. "Our commitment to solving property crimes and keeping our communities safe remains a priority in Perth County."
