Forests Canada, Maitland Conservation plant nearly 43,000 trees in Maitland Valley

Forests Canada and Maitland Conservation have planted nearly 43,000 trees across the Maitland Valley Watershed over the past five years.

"Our partnership with Maitland Conservation aligns with our mission to conserve, restore, and grow Canada’s forests," said Jess Kaknevicius, CEO of Forests Canada. "We are proud to reduce the cost of tree planting for landowners and thankful to all our planting partners."

This spring saw 17,500 seedlings planted, with a goal of 20,000 more in 2026. Restoration supervisor Shannon Millar says the work is vital.

"We target planting in areas with highly erodible soils and along watercourses, which is crucial for keeping sediment and nutrients on the land and out of our water," she said.

Maitland Conservation is looking for more landowners to take part in next year’s program. Learn more at mvca.on.ca.
