Strong winds to blow across midwestern Ontario Friday

Midwestern Ontarians are expected to be whipped by strong winds throughout the day on Friday.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Bruce Peninsula, southern Bruce County, northern Grey County, and Manitoulin Island, as well as a special weather statement for Huron County, Perth County, southern Grey County and northern Wellington County. The national weather agency warns winds will gust up to 90 kilometres an hour beginning late in the morning and continue into the evening.

The southwesterly winds will come as a low pressure system pushes over northeastern Ontario, Environment Canada said.

The strongest winds are expected along Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. People in those areas are advised to secure loose objects that could easily be tossed around by the strong winds.

"Avoid wooded areas to prevent injury from falling trees or branches. Campers should be move to sturdy shelters," Environment Canada also advised.
