Police officer attacked after telling man to stop drinking in public

An Owen Sound police officer was assaulted after telling a man to stop drinking alcohol in public.

The officer was on foot patrol in the downtown around 9 p.m. last Friday when a man was seen drinking what was believed to be alcohol out in the open, Owen Sound police said.

After telling the man to stop, the officer was attacked without warning. No injuries were reported.

A 65-year-old Owen Sound man was arrested and is charged with assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges next month.
