The number of Huron County beaches deemed unsafe for swimming has gone from six to just one.
According to Huron Perth Public Health, St. Joseph Beach remains under a no-swim advisory.
It, along with Ashfield Township Park, Port Albert, Goderich - Rotary Cove, Hay Township Park, and Port Blake, were found to have high levels of E.coli bacteria during routine testing last week. The advisory was lifted for the other five beaches on Saturday after resampling found the bacteria level had subsided to those considered acceptable under provincial guidelines.
As St. Joseph Beach was not retested, the recommendation to stay out of the water remains in place. It will be sampled again on Wednesday. Until then, people should stay out of the water as swimming or playing when high bacteria levels are present can lead to minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections or stomach illness. Symptoms of a gastrointestinal illness include abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea.
