The sweltering heat that started the week saw an 81 year-old temperature record fall in midwestern Ontario.
According to Environment Canada, the high on Monday in the Goderich-area reached 32.6 C, surpassing the old record high for that date of 32.2 C, which was set back in 1944.
The region was under a heat warning at the time, a result of a multi-day heat event that began over the weekend. It brought daytime highs in the low 30s to Ontario, that coupled with the humidity made it feel closer to the low 40s. The average daytime high for this time of year is 25 C.
Environment Canada ended the heat warning early Wednesday after a slightly cooler, less humid air mass moved in overnight. While the weather alert is no longer in place, temperatures will remain above seasonal for the rest of the week. The national weather agency forecasts the daytime high for Wednesday and Thursday to be in the high 20s. By Friday, the temperature will soar back above 30 C.
